“Commons” is a reissue of the legendary “Lotus Document”, published in 1986 and devoted to the work of Álvaro Siza. The publication remains a classic of the literature on Siza’s work, and of reflection on contemporary architecture. Makoko Floating School is included in a chapter named “A School as a City”. “Whether they are in rural China, Lagos or Colombia, new schools seem to be the settings in which the life of local communities is concentrated. Their designs do not answer solely to the needs of the educational institutions, but set out to create open places that can shape a district or a village.” More information in Italian and English can be found on pages 36-39.
